I agree that these ladies need to be held responsibile for their actions (or lack of them). By you finding a replacement they have not learned any responsibility.

I am curious on why these members suddenly backed out. Better offers, school work, etc. If it was a longer time engagement that they thought, perhaps you could assist in breaking it down into manageable shifts. For next time consider announcing the expectations of the project prior to the sign up. That way they have no excuses since they understand what they signed up for.

If the members do not find a replacement, I would suggest that you still do this for them as it would look bad for your organization and all Greeks PR not to show up. However, a reprimand would be needed - perhaps this could be double the amount of volunteer time they committed in the first place to that organization they were originally going to assist with. They would be on 'social probation' until their 'time' was completed.

I don't agree with monetary fines in these instances because I feel it would show that you are paying your way out of a good deed - money solves all mentality. Remember Greek life is not just about college, but life beyond college. Missing a service related project should be dealt with a service related 'fine'.
