The reason I even dug up this old thread is the tired old story about the racist times of the 1930's, when Marian Anderson's
first time to sing at the DAR's Memorial Hall was denied.
Last month, a stamp honoring Marian Anderson was issued, and the ceremony was held... at the DAR hall!
From
the DAR website: "The ceremony's honored guests admire the new Marian Anderson Stamp, the 28th in the U.S. Postal Service's Black Heritage series. From left to right: Ambassador Jukka Valtasaari, Rev. Walter Fauntroy, soprano Kathleen Battle, Anderson biographer Allan Keiler, Anderson's nephew James DePreist, Deputy Postmaster General John Nolan, DAR President General Presley Wagoner, local ABC News reporter Angela Russell, mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, soprano Mattiwilda Dobbs."
If you watch the entire slideshow, you'll also see that several members of her family were there, too.
