TLC in Pittsburgh
Hey everyone! Just got back from the Pittsburgh TLC with AGDee and everyone else. Hope your journey home was safe and quick. I made it home in time to pick up groceries and then fall asleep during the Super Bowl - too many late night meetings and socializing with my sisters.

Alpharetta is going to be awesome because they have been fine tuning all along, after getting feedback from the first TLCs. Area G went really well. If only there had been more hours for SLEEP. Of course, staying up half the night gabbing with my sisters is MY fault and nobody else's! LOL
Alpha Gamma Delta is working on enforcing the licensing of their trademarks, which include the words Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Gam, our coat of arms and our badge so that only licensed vendors can make things with our marks. However, the number of licensed vendors is going to skyrocket and IHQ will help chapters work with local vendors that you always use to get them licensed so that not too much will change for you. There will also be some awesome features like a web site where you can put in what you're looking for and you'll get back 3 bids from vendors so you can choose which one is the best deal! This is being done for two reasons: 1) to keep merchandise off the market that doesn't fit with our ideals (like thongs with our letters on them) and 2) to keep from LOSING our marks by not enforcing them. Apparently you can lose the mark if you haven't made an effort to enforce it. 16 other NPC groups have ALREADY done this, so chances are your local vendors are already licensed by those groups and know the process they will have to follow. Oh yeah! Alpha Gam also receives royalties from the sale of licensed items also. As a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, you may use the marks to make things for yourself, but you cannot sell them or make money from them. So you can still decorate scrapbooks, make picture frames, cross stitch, etc. and it won't affect you. It's going to be a good thing down the road, although it sounds extreme initially.
alphagamzetagam: Your chapter wasn't the only one conducting recruitment via cell phone! There were a few chapters who had pref while we were in Pittsburgh!

Question:
Will this enforcement affect collegiate and alumnae panhel items when letters from all women's GLOs (Alpha Gam or not) are printed?

Yes, but 16 of the other NPCs have also moved to this so everybody is in the same boat.

So how are Panhel-wide items going to be handled now?

The local vendors will need to get licensed by the groups, which they'll likely want to do anyway so that they can still sell their merchandise.

Wouldn't it be easier if all 26 orgs agree on a list of vendors all orgs can use? I think it makes things a lot less confusing.

That's hard because the local vendors near campuses are going to vary and will only license with the orgs that they actually do business with. It wouldn't make sense for a local t-shirt maker to license with groups that don't have any chapters near them. We were just given a quick overview of what is coming in the future and some of the details weren't yet known. What I liked the most was the website site where you would be able to put in what you want and get a bunch of quotes from different vendors and then choose which one you want. I think that will drive prices down because of the competition.

Yes, but alumnae panhel orgs will have more GLOs to add on than just the schools in the area. For example, TAAP not only has the 7 GLOs at U of T, but also DG, DZ, Phi Sig, Theta, Zeta, DPhiE and a few others. DG and Theta are probably fine, since there are chapters within a 2 hour drive, and would probably be using the same vendor. Zeta doesn't have any collegiate chapters in Canada.
How would that work?

I don't know. I'm not even sure that it applies to the Canadian chapters because I'm not familiar with trademark law and all that. We'll just have to wait and see what IHQ tells us about all of it when it's all finalized.

There is a Finance track. It would probably be helpful for her to bring her Resource Guide.
