Our mascot isn't too exciting either - we're the Rattlers. But there is a local all-boys Catholic school whose mascot is the Buttons.
Apparently, the school was founded a few years after ours (like a little brother school) and so they were named the Buttons because they were baby Rattlers. (There is still much discussion as to whether a button is a baby rattlesnake or the actual rattler at the end of the tail of a grown rattlesnake but whatever...)
Either way, they are either baby snakes or snakes' butts, neither of which sounds all that fierce to me - but they are DARN PROUD of their BUTTONS!!!
