I thought the movie SUCKED.

Seriously it was like watching a painfully long National Georgraphic or History Channel episode. It was like the movie that would NEVER end.

They could have cut out about an hour and a half (if not more) of this movie out.

Troy, IMPO, was awesome, but it reigns supreme compared to Alexander.

Plus, I thought there was a part of the movie that was a little too graphic on the animal brutality. (I know some might say "what about human brutality", but with all the other movies I've seen it's like I've become desensitized to when humans die in movies but the killing of animals, especially in the way it was done in Alexander, just a bit much for me).

I agree ASU. I liked TROY. Alexander is a three hour garbage fest. Colin Farrel as Alexander just made me want to hurl rocks at the screen. Angelina Jolie was very good in her role(I thought). Val Kilmer is HARDLY recognizable. I didn't realize him until the horse scene. Colin's fake accent was just horrible. It was graphic. If the knife went through somebody's head, you SAW the knife go through somebody's head. Some of the gay scenes are just uncomfortable. Jared Leto is definately stepping out of his box in this film. I heard The Greek Council of America was protesting the film for the portrayl of Alexander as bisexual. NEWSFLASH: According to this movie Alexander was not bisexual...he was STRAIGHT UP gay(no pun intended). Don't wait for the DVD. Wait until they show this crap on HBO.

This movie really disappointed me.

There was a lot of overacting by many of the actors.

I think Jared Leto did the best acting job out of all of them. I also think that Angelina Jolie looked absolutley beautiful throughout most of the movie (until they made her all old looking).

Yeah, it took me a few minutes to figure out that was Val Kilmer.

The directing and the storyline were so choppy, it was hard to follow sometimes, and it was hard to keep the characters straight when they flashed from childhood to adulthood.

[mini hijack]

As someone with a History degree I think this should be mentioned.

Homosexual relationships during the ancient Greek times were often encouraged. The thing is women were considered highly inferior to men. The only reason a man was with a woman was to impregnate her and continue "the family line". Men were the superior beings so in their minds it was only logical for men to be with other men. (if that makes any sense at all).

Now I should mention that this is what I learned in my ancient Greece class I took I am in no way extremely "scholarly" with Ancient Greece but this is what my teacher told us.

AXiD670: I have to agree, Angelina Jolie did look absolutely beautiful in this movie.

I think you're exactly right, ASUADPi.

I would guess that most classics scholars would consider it anachronistic at best to apply a gay/straight/bisexual or homosexual/heterosexual analysis to Alexander and Hephaestion because that would be applying a modern understanding instead of a contemporary (as in contemporary to Alexander) understanding.

Here's a good, and not too long, article on the subject:

Was He Really Alexander's Lover....?

For the reasons that you just stated, I couldn't understand for the life of me why the Council would have a problem with the movie. Some of the scenes with Jared and Colin looked like they were uncomfortable. Jared, I think, did very well with his character. Colin Farrell...needed help...something because he tanks on the screen.
