Happy Holidays!

Name the only Chi Omega chapter ever to be installed on Christmas Eve. (*Hint* -- the year was 1913)

a.) Theta Chapter, West Virginia University
b.) Eta Chapter, University of Michigan
c.) Pi Alpha Chapter, University of Cincinnati
d.) None ... that would be crazy to install a chapter at such a busy time of year!

I'm guessing C, cuz Theta and Eta would've been installed one after another really early in the 1900s, so Pi Alpha sounds like it probably would be around 1913.

You are correct, Sister Cardinal026! Yes, Theta & Eta chapters will celebrate their Centennial next year -- they were both founded in 1905.

Pi Alpha, Univ. of Cincinnati was installed on Christmas Eve 1913. Let's see...Mary Love was S.H. then and probably was living in Cincinnati at the time. I bet that was why a Christmas Eve installation was feasable.

I'm going with A - Holcombe Hall. I KNOW that is there because Carnation has talked about it before - and maybe had a class or a dorm room there????

And there is no "all of the above" answer so I think I'm in the clear on this one!

Ooooooo...so close, Holcombe Hall is named for Miss Jobelle, but alas, Jobelle Holcombe was never National President of Chi Omega.

tricky, tricky!

Here is a picture of Holcombe Hall:

Holcombe Hall is home to 140 co-ed students and is an Authoring Your Life (Beyond the Freshmen Year) Hall. Holcombe is also home to the Office of International Students and Scholars. It was built in 1948 and was completely remodeled in the last decade.

Holcombe is located on the north side of campus near the Law School and Mullins Library. It features a game room, a formal lounge, a piano lounge and a T.V. Room. The hall is air-conditioned and has an individual thermostat in resident rooms. Each room also has a micro/fridge and carpeted floors.Room Dimensions are typically 11'-9" (W) x 15'-9" (L).

GUESS AGAIN, PLEASE...

I'd like to guess B, simply because there's a Dyer Hall at University of Cincinnati and I don't remember learning about a Kirk Bell Cocke - Kirk Bell Howell, yes, but not K.B. Cocke. While I think the aviary would be cool and the name is cute (I like the rhyming), it just doesn't seem as plausible - which is probably why I'd be wrong......

Congrats, OL...you are correct!

(Kirk Bell Cocke was a former S.H. -- several years after her term ended, she married John Hassell & became Kirk Bell Hassell. She did attend the Univ. of Alabama and was a professor at F.S.U. for over 25 years, but no building bears her name.)

(And sadly, no Blue Jay Aviary yet for Mary Ann Fruge'! *Hint* *Hint* Anyone listening from Ole Miss??!)

Sorry to crash...no Fruge' building yet...however that could happen one day! Her husband is Don Fruge' is head of the Ole Miss Foundation and Mrs. Mary Ann Fruge' is pretty well known since she is ya'll President.

-Katherine, AOII Chapter Adviser at Ole Miss

Who wrote the following often-quoted saying:

Chi Omega friendship is
Worth more than gold.
It's not had for the asking,
No place is it sold.
It's not found in a store,
Nor in a book on a shelf.
You just have to be a
Chi Omega yourself!

a.) Dr. Charles Richardson, Founder, c. 1898
b.) Mary Love Collins, Delta Chapter (Dickinson), former S.H., c. 1929
c.) Dr. Pauline Wright Nichols Pepinsky, Phi Gamma Chapter (LSU), c. 1938
d.) Jean Mermoud Mrasek, Epsilon Gamma Chapter (Tulsa), in her installation speech as S.H., 2004

Well, considering my big wrote it to me (an altered version guess I should say - some of the wording was a bit different) when I was pledging in 95, I guess it can't be D.

I'm going with C - basically because she's the only one I've never heard of and I like her last name!

You are right, Kathy! (Don't ask me who Dr. Pepinsky was/is -- I have no clue.) I also was familiar with a variation of this saying -- Back in my day at my school, each pref attendee was given a flower to take. Tied to my white carnation at the Chi Omega pref party was this saying.
