I gotta say...'having problems' is kinda vague. So here is my suggestion. Pin point exactly what the problem is (behavior, attitude,etc.) and talk to them about it. Directly. Don't be vague. Don't be wishy washy. Let them know how their actions make you feel. Suggest solutions to the problem. (eg: 'you gossip a lot. please stop, it really hurts people. If you have a problem, please talk it our with that person.')
As for what not to do:
-Passive agressive behavior
-blaming
-telling them that others are talking about the problem.

Yeah. I know confrontation sucks, but man it beats gossip and backstabbing or for that matter, letting people treat others with disrespect.
