Did anyone else see the premier this evening?

Sorry for crashing, but I don't get HBO, and I was wondering how it was? My mother has the letters that her eldest brother sent home from war, just prior to getting killed, and they are so amazing - so full of hope, dread, and a threat that he was going to beat up their other brother if he enlisted. He was going to be issued glasses when he got to the base. He didn't live that long. Obviously, I never met him...
Anyhow, how was HBO's treatment of these letters?

Hi, I'm usually a lurker... but I watched it last night and cried the entire hour. That special brings it all home, and puts faces with these casualties, whereas the government just makes them numbers.

Sorry for crashing, but there isn't a thread in the Chit Chat forum. I just got done watching this show. I cried throughout the entire hour. I really started to cry when the families would read the letters and then say that they recieved the letters after they had already gotten news that their loved one had been killed. The mother that got the Mother's Day card really made me start crying. I mean, I can't imagine getting a letter from someone saying that they loved me and missed me knowing that I had just buried them. I would be so distraught.
Thanks for letting me crash your board.

It will move you to tears
The show is very moving and YES it puts a face to the soldiers that we DO NOT see elsewhere.
All I could think of when I saw the segment on the 19 year old young lady was....She's just a baby.

i don't have hbo so i haven't seen this. however, i was reading this past months glamour at the gym the other day and they have quite a few of these last letters in the issue. i was fighting back the tears while on the machines. it was so sad to hear about the conditions and what they are seeing everyday. i definitely know i couldn't handle it and i don't know how they do, especially the ones that are younger than i am.
