Oh, I'm calling 19 and just discovered fratty (or whomever/wherever she's gotten her ideas of What Is Done from this week.. this clearly reads like someone who decided to specify something they do/don't do to show how Elite they are without really thinking it all through).

Not a troll, just young and self-important.

It may not be as unusual as it seems. From Sigma Chi's Delta Delta Chapter's (Purdue) website.

"This [1877 pledge that students would not be allowed to join any secret or Greek lettered societies] forced Delta Delta to go underground, having to conduct meetings in total secrecy and initiate new members while classes were not in session. There were 7 new members initiated during this time, called "sub-rosas" as a result of the secret status of their initiations. Due to the actions of Purdue’s administration, the brothers of Delta Delta did not wear their letters around campus, a tradition that is continued today, showing great respect for the courageous actions of those who came before them."

Perhaps there is a reason or history behind her chapter not wearing letters that either she isn't aware of, or perhaps is not privy to share.

I like how a bunch of you people are so quick to call BS. Do you go to KU? If not, then you probably don't understand the Greek culture and attitude there. Similar to how different schools Greeks have a different "suggested" dress code for football game attire, KU might have a different "suggested" dress code for going to class.

I went to a large university in the South with a large Greek Life system, you know what? It was kind of similar. Not to the extent that noone wore letters to class, but a fraternity member that wore big letter shirts (like pledge jerseys) that wasn't a pledge would have been laughed at. Plenty of the sororities had girls that wore everything lettered to class, but honestly, a few of the top ones you rarely saw girls wearing big letters or lots of letters.

It obviously works for their chapter. And this isn't a case for HQ just like a chapter that "strongly encourages" girls not to wear parachute pants isn't a case for HQ. Girls that join obviously learn and take their cues about Theta culture from the actives.

Congrats on your successes ku_theta.

If that were the case, then I wouldn't be so quick to use the tacky and anti-Greek professor reasoning.

And utealum, I definitely agree.

Unhappy

This has to be without a doubt one of the most inane argumeents on stupidity that I have seen!

Greeks Dont Wear Thier Letters on Campus!

Why I have no damn Clue!

Are We as Greeks ashamed or what?

KU, Ks, has a Great Greek Campus, but I wonder why someone says they cannot wear their Letters?

The dressing of Students suck! Become Hill People? Jayhawk Code for Snob Un!

I live in Kansas and Graduated from a Kansas Un, and give Me a Gorilla rather than a funky Chicken!

Oh, are You embarresesed by Your Greek Affiliation!

I am 35 Miles East, come and see me! Dotte Boy, KC Ks!

This is hilarious. God forbid a chapter wanna look respectable on campus. Around here, greek "dress" is to be classy and respectable. For some reason, a hoodie with huge letters doesnt fit the description, at least at campuses similar to mine. We generally would prefer that our guys look like they just got done with casual friday or a round of golf than a rock concert or the skateboard park. I'm aware that things are different in different parts of the country, but just because someone chooses not to emblazon themselves with letters doesnt mean they arent a "real" greek.

I don't think anyone's calling anyone not a "real" greek.

What people are calling bullshit on are the kids who can't differentiate between what may or may not be their campus and/or chapter culture and fashion and what is actually "forbidden."

So you think gymwear outside the gym is in poor taste. Join the club. It's not, on most campuses, something that anything but the most superficial, aspirational, johnny come lately young Greeks take notice of. (What they are aspiring to with their Dress Like Our Grandmothers/Fathers Did fashion sense is beyond me, but I am not about to knock it. I am sure I'll be knocked back out of any semblance of stylishness soon enough.)

No I mean you probably wont. Unless you're from the South, the wealthy parts of the NE, D.C., or are somewhere on the corporate ladder, then the things we wear here aren't "cool." However, they are classy and classic, and thats what we prefer. Its just one of those things I guess. I once had a guy from Jersey tell me about how good he was with the ladies up there, but when he comes down here, girls won't even speak to him. Thats probably the reaction I would get in some club up north or out west.

You spend more time talking about clothing than any guy I ever knew growing up in the South, I'll give you that.

Thank you! I was reading this thread and the one thing that kept popping into my mind was, "Geez, guys today are much more clothing conscious than they were when I was in college!"

Is that what people mean when they say a guy is "metrosexual" or is that something else entirely?

I'm simply responding to what people say. We do care about looking presentable down here, but we don't really fret over "what to wear." To the point about metrosexual, I'm quite the opposite of that.

Uh, no you aren't. You might not be metrosexual but you aren't the "opposite of it". The opposite is someone who doesn't care at all.
