That contraction is indeed mentioned in early editions of the Paedagogus (Songs of Lam Chi) and the PG&G, I think. Unfortunately it doesn't roll off the tongue easily, nor have a pleasant ring to it. I'm surprised they ever used it. But you certainly are right.
