So here's my thing about MKL and her student fiancee, which is kind of the same reason I feel bad about strippers:

I think we all agree the kid was abused. What she did to him when he was 12 was wrong.

I think it's arguable that this kid is different, now, because of the abuse that took place when he was 12. Social workers see patterns: childhood abuse often makes people make poor decisions later in life.

Which is why I always feel bad for strippers. I read a study on strippers in Chicago a couple years ago and about the percentage of them that reported childhood sexual abuse. It was ridiculous.

Sometimes I want to put people in a box so they don't hurt themselves.
Wow! Holy close-mindedness.

Jenna Jameson was sexually abused. By all accounts, though, she enjoyed working in the porn industry. She obviously also brought a lot of enjoyment (cough cough) to other people. She's not hurting anybody. If she enjoys it, she's not hurting herself. What's the point of "boxing her up" to protect her from herself?

It is a hundred percent true that sex industry workers are likely to have been sexually abused. But do you think that maybe they go into the sex industry because it provides them a measure of control over sexual situations, unlike their hitsory with sexual abuse? If that is empowering to them, why should I care?

Is it victimization if the victim doesn't feel victimized?

And what is so wrong with letting other people make choices for themselves? Just because you don't agree for you doesn't mean that it's wrong for everyone . .
