I just noticed the comment about how the kitty's litter box is in the utility room with his food... BIG RED FLAG!
Cats
having their food too close to their litter box and the cat is the one who decides how close is too close.
After all, do you eat in the bathroom??? That's pretty much what you are asking the cat to do.
