I just remembered some advice I was given, to not go to Italy (specifically Rome) as a female alone, or just with another female, to avoid unwanted attention and harassment from Italian guys. I have no idea how bad it is b/c I've never been, but that seems to be a cultural norm for the area. Make sure you take that into consideration! (Not that this may even make a difference if you're going with a group, but still, FYI.)
On the other hand, I've been to London several times and never felt particularly uncomfortable walking around the streets there, even when my friend and I got lost and ended up in a rather dodgy part of town!
