She has toned it down recently, though - did you notice? I guess she really can't say "ew, this is horrible!" seeing as she is there to give viewers tips on GOOD places to visit.

The other thing I think is funny is when she just "happens" to make a new friend in a city or visits a restaurant and begins a conversation with the staff that eludes to the fact that it's her first visit. Obviously, they have to do pre-visits and ok the camera crew, etc.. Again, what else can she do? "Hi, I'm here again, this time with my camera crew" doesn't make for good TV.
I'm glad I'm not the only one whom she annoys!

Oh, the other thing she says that really puts my thong in a bunch is "EVOO"!!! OH C'MON!!! SAY THE WHOLE PHRASE, BIATCH!!!!! SAY IT OR I'LL POUR IT DOWN YOUR THROAT!!!!

arrgghhh. I hate when Rachael says "EVOO" because right after she says that, she'll say "Extra virgin olive oil". EVOO is so stupid, and if you're going to say extra virgin olive oil, don't aggrivate the rest of us, and quit saying "EVOO"!

Oh, I always wondered what EVOO means. I don't watch the show, but there's a great restaurant in Cambridge called EVOO. I always thought it was just a weird name.

Just last night, Rachel Ray made baked pasta shells with pesto and lots of cheese. My boyfriend & I ran to the grocery store, bought the ingredients, & had an awesome dinner. I love her show 30 Minute Meals.

Iron Chef also kicks some serious a$$.

Boy Meets Grill is also cool.

Entertaining with Michael something or other is a good show.

I can't stand the annoying lady from Barefoot Contessa but I like what she cooks so I watch even though I feel like strangling her.

I forgot about the Barefoot Contessa. She is such a Hamptons snob. Even her name makes me wanna hurl: Ina Garten...C'MON! Her real name is probably Betty Smith. And she has all these "gay" male friends who she just LOVES to cook for when her husband, the prominent East Coast university professor, is away for weeks at a time....HMMMM!!?!?!?!?! Me thinks Ina doesn't quite get enough in her vagina....

SHE MAKES ME BATTY! And her food is too damned complicated. It's always something like "Roasted Duck Confit with Bing Cherries and Roasted Shallots on Shittake Risotto served with Parmesan Asparagus and Rosemary Sea Salt Yeast Rolls".....ALL FOR A CHILD'S BIRTHDAY PARTY!!! C'MON YOU FOOD WHORE!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO FRIED CHICKEN FROM PATHMARK AND SOME ESKIMO PIES?!?!?!?

Ah yes, the descriptive food trend. I suppose it's better than the "surprise" trend of the 50s (Chicken Surprise, Tuna Surprise, etc.)

Speaking of retro food, I have a feeling that many of you would get a kick out of these two web sites:

The Gallery of Regrettable Food, which highlights recipes from the mid-century:

Good Lord, good Lord. This looks like . . . like Orson Welles' liver. Like a shaved Horta. Like a cinnamon roll made entirely out of horse fat and brown sugar. Like Jabba the Hutt's prostate. I don't know what the hell this is. Maybe a roast of some sort. If so, it's a good Depression-era diet aid: this is what you would eat if you had more money, so be glad you don't.

and also check out Weight Watchers recipe cards from 1974

Um, I guess this is a salad best enjoyed at the house of that one scary lady down the street who never leaves the house and talks to her knicknacks.
I showed this card to a friend who said, "What the hell's in that bowl-- bong water?!"
Is that why the ceramic animals are so drawn to it? Is it their magical pond?
Why have they gathered? What do they want?

Bon Appetit!

I LOVE the Food Network! It's usually the first channel I turn to.

My favorites include:

30 Minute Meals
All American Festivals
The Best Of...
Food 911 (Tyler is yummy!)
Good Eats
Easy Entertaining
Date Plate was fun when it was on
Party Starters
Unwrapped

I can't stand Bobby Flay or Emeril though!

My sisters and I love to cook, so it's not unusual for us to see a recipe being made on TV, going straight to the store to get the ingredients, and making it that night.

My boyfriend's standard line is, "You're watching that food channel again?" Hey- he doesn't complain when he gets to eat my dishes.

Rachael Ray is getting her own talk show. How good does THAT sound?

It's really funny that I watch the Food Network, because I DON"T cook!!

If I decided to cook, I'd look up Paula Deen's recipes. They always look good.

Actually, that is her real name. She's "Cousin Ina" to one of my Chi O sisters.

I'm a huge Food Network fan, watch it constnatly. Drives the husband crazy! But, I always say, he loves my cooking so Food Network IS important.

Just like my other time spent watching HGTV will pay off for him when we buy our first home and I fix it all up!

Some pals of mine own the company that produces a fair amount of programming for that network, but I don't watch it, so I can tell you which ones.
