The prosecution moved to dismiss the criminal charges yesterday and the judge granted same. There will be no criminal trial. It was somewhere in the middle of jury selection when it was called off.
The young woman who brought the charges declined to testify if the trial had gone on, and the prosecution, who had said they had a great case with or without her had seen its case getting weaker and weaker with rulings to allow the victim's sexual history allowed as evidence.
Bryant wrote a letter of appology to the alleged victim saying that he still felt the sex was consentual, but was sorry for any pain he caused her. The letter was not required by the court.
As a reminder, the civil trial (assuming there is one) will be in Denver before Judge Richard Match, the same jurist who conducted the Oklahoma City Bombing Trial.
