Greetings to the men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.
I have a question that I'm asking respectfully. I attended a function hosted by your fraternity called a Mardi Gras. I saw some men that I worked with whom are members of your org, we sat back and talked.
This chapter just had new members cross this year and I greeted a guy that I knew from work and grad school; it was a shock to me because I never knew that he desired greek life. Long story-short... I congratulated him and I turned to my good guy friend who is also a Que and said I didn't know that "cat" wanted to be a Que.
OMG...this guy(newly initiated) flipped out! stating not to call him "Cat"! The older member that I knew, pulled him aside and a few minutes later the guy apologized to me for his behavior. I felt that it was really uncalled for how he acted.
My question(s) are: What did I do wrong -and- why did he trip out like that over the word "Cat"? If I asked anything inappropriate... I apologize, that certainly is not my intent.
I just need some guidance concerning this matter, so that I won't do anything wrong again. Even though I'm not really sure what I did wrong in the beginning. I would really appreciated some feedback. Anything that I'm told/written is greatly appreciated.

Hmmm, it's not easy to explain to someone that isn't initiated into Omega.
Basically being that we are known places as QUE DAWGS being called CAT would cause some raised eyebrows.
The newly initiated brother was in the wrong. But CAT is a word that we don't like used loosely when referring to us.
