I was a cheerleader too! I started when I was 10, doing Pop Warner cheer, cheered through junior high and high school. I wish we would have had the All-Star cheer gyms in my area when I was in HS!! I could have at least tried to make college cheer with extra training. Oh well.
I would LOVE to help coach a cheer squad, but they usually start practicing after school, and I don't leave work until 5pm.

so I was on the surf team/club 11th and 12th grade, but never got any letters or anything.

Shit...the Board of Ed here in Hawaii will finally recognize surfing as an organized sport this Fall (before Winter when the swells get crazy huge) -- even though Hawaii's the birthplace of surfing and the sport of Hawaiian kings.
Man, what I would GIVE to be able to compete now!

Basketball, 7-9
Volleybal, 7-11
Softball, 9-10 (though I'd played since I was 8)
Cheerleading 10-12 (wrestling and one year of football)
Track, 8
My high school was small enough you could do pretty much everything you wanted--I was also big into band, vocal, drama and speech.
Didn't do anything in college but my husband did. Played 4 years college football and threw hammer and weight 4 years for track. Made All-American his senior year and now coaches at a local college. He says he wants to get back into throwing, but that has yet to be seen.

So many other cheerleaders on GC! Hurrah! We should form a clique.
I did gymnastics for several years, and was on my high school cheerleading team for two years.
I've cheered all three years of college, and will be cheering this coming year, too! We cheer at all home football and men's basketball games, and compete all over the country during competition season.
I also teach gymnastics and coach a recreational/competitive cheerleading team. I plan on continuing to coach after I graduate this year, and maybe even join an open all-star team if I can find one in my area.

I did cheerleading for pee-wee football from 4th-8th grade, then was on the dance team in high school and captain my senior year. We won the state championship that year (w00t).
I used to get out of so many classes by telling my teachers I had to go paint a banner for the football game or something. It was awesome.

I was a cheerleader from the age of six all the way through junior high. I also did competitive ballet, tap, jazz and clogging. After I went to an all girls HS I quit dance and decided to pick up rowing. I loved it so much but it took up so much time that my senior year I quit and just focused on having fun.

I had 10 varsity letters in HS- 3 in cross country, 4 in swimming, and 3 in track. I also swam year-round on a YMCA team. My sister and I were on a UCA competitive cheer squad for 2 years, when I was an 8th grader and a freshman.

9-12th grade: Colorguard (flags, whatever you want to call it)
for 3 years after high school: taught a middle school colorguard, and worked with 2 high school guards
I kind of wish I would have gotten into cheer at some point, but the whole social scene they were involved in at my high school was something I didn't want to be involved in (sex parties, drugs, etc.). Most of them do absolutely nothing with their lives now (though I know a few very intelligent and successful former cheerleaders from my high school. But Greek Pyramid practices my freshman year made me think otherwise about their "talents;" I never would have thought cheering was that hard!

Basketball-- 3rd grade through Jr. year in H.S.
Volleyball--7th grade through Jr. year
Track--Freshman through Soph. year
Cheerleading--Soph year
Band--8th grade through Sr. Year
Flag Corp--9th through Sr. Year
(Quit playing sports Sr. year b/c the coaches sucked!)
I went to a very small school (graduated high school w/30 people) and if you were ANYBODY you were expected to do everything. It was hard not to be in athletics and not play any sports without be looked at strangely.
