She said her mom couldn't come b/c she was an initiate of another sorority. Are there any Alpha Xi Deltas out there that could shed some light on this? That is the house where I thought I heard about this. Chances are pretty good that I misunderstood.
We had several legacies in my Alpha Xi chapter, and sometimes their mother/sister/grandmother would come to initiation. I don't know about other sororities, but I was under the impression that any initiated sister could come to our ceremonies - it's just common courtesy that alumnae and sisters from other chapters would ask first. I don't think anyone would ever refuse to let them participate - we always loved having the alumnae there.

Congrats on your initiation! It will be one of the most special memories of your life.
