Atlanta has a station that plays nothing but carols from mid-November on. This year they were obsessed with Andy Williams..."It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" , "Happy Holidays", etc. I think it was because he did a concert here a couple of weeks ago (it was at 5 PM, what was with that?) I turned off the radio a whole lot during this season!

I just heard the Hippopotamus song for the first time the other day. How did our great Nation let this happen?

It's not even Thanksgiving yet! The mall has had Christmas stuff up since early October. It sure made all the trick-or-treaters look odd.

Oh, and I spent my college Christmas breaks working in the mall, so I can't stand the "Harry Connick Christmas Album"- listen to that for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.

I normally LOVE all christmas songs, I listen to DC's station that plays all Christmas music from November through January, but I absolutely can't stand the Hippopotomus song either. Especially awful since my real little sisters love it and sing it all the time...

I'm the same way. I don't really like any of the really traditional Christmas songs. The only Christmas songs I like are "Christmas Wrapping" (I looove the 80's), "Jingle Bell Rock" (I like the Rockabilly sound), and the Charlie Brown theme song (I know it's not really a Christmas song, but I always associate it with Christmas).

This is sort-of related, but I have to share. We have an ice cream truck that circles the neighborhood every night, all year long. And every night, without fail, it plays the same 3 Christmas carols. In the middle of summer, fall, whenever, there is always a tinny rendition of "Silent Night" blasting through the neighborhood at 6pm.

FYI, the name of the song is "Linus and Lucy's Theme" or with a "the" somewhere... Just in case you see it on a music box or such.

Just to be anal-retentive (and in case someone is looking for it on a CD or elsewhere), the name is simply "Linus and Lucy."

"Grandma got ran over by a reindeer"

And a very annoying version of "Sleigh Ride" is an honorable mention.

Overall, the secular ones tend to get on my nerves much quicker than the religious ones.

Of the religious ones, I do not particularly care for "O Little Town of Bethlehem". Or "It came upon the midnight clear". But they do not irritate me anywhere near as much as some of the secular ones do.

There was a secular one in Spanish that had absolutely nothing to do with anything Christmas, but for some reason was sung in Christmastime. The lyrics involved "give me your hand dove so that I can come to your nest because I hear you are alone and I have come to keep you company". Of course, they have a very perverted double entendre- that the average 8 year old will NOT be able to grasp. I do not care for this song and I am glad I have not heard it in over 13 years. My brother and I would parody it making an ad for a farm store with its melody.

And another relative disliked another song in Spanish featuring "clouds walking in space". But at least that one had religious elements- although they were not exclusive to Christmas.

So even the more religious countries are NOT exempt from annoying secular Christmas songs.

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas or whatever the heck it's called is terrible. Also by this time of year I've started hating most Christmas music because I've heard it so much so I've switched over to the Twisted Christmas cds with songs like 12 Pains of Christmas

I don't know if it's been mentioned or not, but Bruce Springsteen doing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," has to be the worst ever. That or Stevie Nicks (who I usually adore) doing "Silent Night."
