A few years ago, I had a TV director who worked for me here in Denver. He was one of the last of the original hippies: long hair, beard, known on occassion to do some controlled substances and gallons of Budweiser and shots.
He left and went to another TV station. A couple of years later, he called and asked to use me as a reference for a job as production manager for the TV department at DisneyWorld.
When a nice lady called to check the reference, I just had to ask -- and she cut me off about half way through the question to say, "He knows the hair and beard have to go."
I saw him in Orlando a year or so later, and honestly would not have recognized him if we hadn't arranged to meet.
Scary.
