I think college athletes should get a stipend if they are not allowed to work based on eligibility rules (Certain divisions in the NCAA prohibit student-athletes from working). Most college athletes ARE NOT going to the pros, and many come from families that cannot afford to provide even basic food plans, which are not often covered by scholarships. I don't think they should get a salary, however, unless ALL athletes will be getting a salary. It is not the job of colleges to provide a training ground for students entering the pro arena, so all athletes should be treated as equitably as possible.
