I don't believe there is a "The One", although I used to believe it. I think there are many who you fall in love with and can decide to commit to. At that point, you can only hope that the person doesn't change drastically, remains as committed to you as you are to him/her, makes the relationship a priority, etc. You CHOOSE to make that person the one and work hard at it, and hopefully they will make that same committment and work just as hard at it to make it last over time. Then, as James said, in hindsight, you were know that you had a successful intimate relationship that you built together.
