My sister was a Sigma Kappa (since died), and was thrilled that I even signed up for rush. Going through rush, she didn't want to tell me what sorority to join, only saying "Go with your heart." My mother didn't understand but never said anything negative.
I have daughters in different sororities and I have always given support. It is wonderful to meet their "sisters" and have them visit.
Perhaps, if your family had the chance to visit with them ( at your home or on Parents, Mother's and Father's Day at school ) your family would "get it." Also, have your sister visit for a weekend and include her in events (pre-rushing??)
Also try leaving your Triangle out on the table so your family can see.. this isn't just for your college days!!
