I own a pair of Tevas as I worked at a summer camp and they were actually quite useful for being down on the river. I also live in a great rafting area. However I don't wear them for anything but the intended purpose. That's like wearing golf shoes with spikes to ballroom dance, inappropriate.
Did your pastor have on socks with the Tevas? A local pastor here was wearing some crazy neon polar fleece socks with Birkenstocks one day. Since they wear robes, and can wear whatever underneath, some nondistracting footwear would be nice.

Otherwise he was dressed pretty nicely. Khaki pants and a pale blue shirt. No socks in sight. I would have laughed a little more out loud had there been socks tho I'm sure.
