I was in a similar situation in my past. He was in the reserves and stationed in Greece for a few months. He came back and went to DC for the summer for an internship. When he came back we were both busy with grad school. While the relationship or the most part was good when we were together we were mostly in the honeymoon phase the whole time. I don't think we really got a chance to truly get to know each other and we became so caught up in the romance of the whole thing. When it crashed and burned earlier this winter I was devastated. I think that if we had stayed friends and seen where it led instead of jumping right into a relationship things could have worked out or maybe not but I wouldn't have gotten hurt.
Now I am dating another guy who is strongly thinking of moving to Florida. He doesn't know it but when he gets back this week (from Florida) I am planning to tell him let's just be friends now.
I am a strong believer in fate and if it's meant to be it is going to happen no matter what.
But YOU are the one making the sacrifice in the relationship if you decide to "be with him" because YOU are the one putting your life on hold while he does everything he wants to do WITHOUT you.
Sorry to sound bitter but that's the reality of long-distant relationships.
