I was going to suggest to see your stylist that you trust, and ask them. You may or may not have the right shape of head or face for bangs. I went to my former stylist and asked, and she said no way in hell. The local one agreed, and I am not allowed any length shorter than chin.
I think this is what they all mean, the description said "bangs swept to the side".
ETA didn't you have eeough bangs in the 80's to last your whole life?
My sister is about the same age that you are, and the bangs she has now are nothing compared to her high school look in 1987.
