A bit of a weather buff myself here...
Although I dont remember much of it, I was in the 1979 Wichita Falls, TX tornado. One of only about 15 F-5 tornados in US history. We had been in Altus at the AFB and had friends there in WF. I just remember a really green sky, lots of hail and my dad being scared as hell and us hauling ass up 287 back toward amarillo, where we lived at the time.
It was only many years later that I found out that that serious storm and the WF tornado wer eone in the same.
My mom survied the 1995 Pampa, TX tornado (the one they always show on TV withthe redneck sheriff videotaping from his car in front of the railroad tracks) and we coudlnt get a hold of my mom and were all worried for about 8 hours after. The tornado passed about 3 blocks from our house.
I can rememebr where I was when the F5 hit Jarrell, TX (in the computer lab on campus) and when the F5 his Bridge Creek, Moore and OKC (at work and worried about my friends in Tulsa).
Growing up in the panhandle of texas, I have seen more tornados than I can count. Now living in South Texas, where tornados are almost non-existant, I can honestly say I DO NOT MISS THEM. Its cool to know its storming outside and you probably arent going to die.
