I almost got the ring that I really wanted. I wanted a white gold ring with a princess cut stone. I didn't want a diamond. I wanted a blue stone.
I received a white gold ring with an aquamarine (I originally thought it was topaz...silly me) that had a trilliant cut. I had never heard of trilliant cut before. I went online and saw lots of triangles, so I figured the jeweller didn't jack up my ring.
I was quite happy.

When we picked out my engagement ring and bands, I really thought that a small ring would look best on my hand because of my long, slim fingers. So, we went with a classic, round style.
But my hubby persisted and got me to try on some other, flashy looking rings. I was surprised that they actually don't look nearly as flamboyant on my hand. So, in a few months we're going to trade up to a 1.5 carat marquise at Kay. I don't know how to post pics, but it's on the website.

I really don't have too much of a preference as long as it's something that he put a lot of thought into. The only thing that I do want is for it to be either white gold or platinum. I HATE yellow gold. I've always loved the rings that had an antique look to them, but I really can care less.

A salesperson at Bailey's Banks and Biddles (I think that is the name of it) jewelry store once told me that you should always get a ring that looks too big on your hand the first time you try it on. After a while, your eyes adjust to it and it appears smaller!
I know this is true for me. I thought my 1.2 carat ring was HUGE when my husband got it for me, now it's just a regular size. We've discussed upgrading rings, and although I would like a bigger, sparkler (is that right??) diamond, after reading all of the stuff about the diamon mines in Africa I can't in good conscience buy another diamond. I have been seriously thinking about getting a "moissanite" or something like it though. I just need to do some more research. I'm not talking about c.z. you can buy in a regular store, but one of those serious man made diamond that frequently cannot be detected as not "real" with a jeweler's eye-thingie and are hard enough to cut glass, just like a diamond. I'll stick with my little one carat if it looks fake though, even though knowing me I will tell people that it ain't no real diamond! LOL
Question for the ladies: What would you say if your man bought you one of those? Keep in mind that a 2 carat flawless diamond can cost at least $15K, while one of these man made diamonds of same quality (colorless, no inclusions) could be around $1 or 2K or less.

We were away on vacation and the mood was right---he knew he wanted to propose soon, but hadn't bought the ring yet. On Valentines Day he presented me with my REAL engagement ring. It is a 1 carat brilliant cut diamond with a diamond and sapphire on the left side and then on the right. A total of five stones. Five for my founders. 3 diamonds----3 for his founders. We met at Blue and White Weekend in Gainesville, FL. I love my ring! It looks gigantic on my finger because I have very small hands with thin fingers.

It's probably not wise to tempt fate, since I've only been dating my boyfriend for three months...but when I was young, I saw a plain gold ring (I'm also Jewish) with a Biblical inscription in Hebrew written on the inside, where it is always touching you. And I immediately knew that I would love to have a ring like that inscribed with my favorite verse from the Song of Solomon: This is my beloved and this is my friend.

Good Topic
When I was engaged my husband got me a 1/2 carat 3 stone ring from Friedmans with some of his refund check from school. It was small and we upgraded to a 1 carat round cut. However I lost the enagement ring and we had to replace it, with another 1 carat which I helped pay for since I lost the ring.
You know what though as materialistic as I can be I don't care really about a ring, I wear my wedding ring somedays and somedays I change it out with a CZ I got from homeshopping (yes I did and I dare you to know which one is real, no shame in my game). Since I coached softball for years I would often not wear my ring or wear the CZ so I switch out of habit.
If he loves you and you love him a piece of foil wont matter becuase as I have learned the size of my rings has never helped my marriage, hard work and dedication has.

My rings
this is my ring set ...we got hitched in 2004. I wasn't a fan of the round stones (always like emerald cut) but when I tried it on it looked so nice like it belonged there. I feel naked if I am out w/ out them but will take them off as soon as I get home if I am in for the rest of the day.
This is his
he wanted a little bling in his which I found funny since he doesn't wear any jewelry. But he loves it!

Is "tiffany" a cut or a setting?
and am I wrong for wanting a bigger ring? Or just greedy? lol

Not greedy, but that question would be better suited for the one purchasing the ring for you. I say you just want what you want!
