My best friend is Korean and she really wants to go through rush but one of our other friends went through rush at another souther school (i wont say which one) and was told that they didn't think a 'black' girl would fit in. My friend is scared that because Ole miss is a deep south school her being a minority will hurt her chances. how can i convince her differently!
A lot of chapters want diversity, and look to include women with different backgrounds. I'm not from ole miss, but around here, underrepresented minorities have a leg up (a good friend of mine is the rush chair for a fraternity and they actively recruited minority men so they could have a diverse pledge class).
Tell her as long as she is comfortable joining a sorority, they will be comfortable accepting her.
Your friend should definitely rush! I don't go to Ole Miss but I do go to a southern school and I know that most sororities are looking for girls that will be the best match personality wise. They want girls who have something to offer the sorority. So tell your friend to keep an open mind and if she does encounter racism (which I doubt), then she knows she definitely wouldn't want to join that house. Best of luck to her and you!
Even in the south, she shouldn't have a problem with that. I don't think (or at least I hope) she would be cut for being Asian. I go to a southern girl and there are minorities in the sororities here. Tell her to go for it!
