I was saying to her that I always thought that Steadman was on the DL, well she just told me that she knows Steadman's cousin, and the cousin said that Steadman has been on the DL for years. He sees both Steadman and Oprah at the family reunion each year, and his momma is not having Steadman marry Oprah because she isn't part Indian. Something with her having a problem with her not having any Indian blood in her. I was like she needs to be worried that her son married one woman and had a child, and has been living this secret life instead of have a tude about her son marrying another woman.

oooooooooooooooooooooooo chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiile SHUT YO MOUF!!!

LOL - are you suggesting women give anal exams. If it does not bother a man, then one may be gay - lol. From what I hear if you are on DL then you are a giver and not a receiver - not that it makes any difference.

Ladies, I am also told that when you ask, look him in the eye and get the TRUE reaction (not what his mouth says - what his bodily reaction says) AND there may be tell-tale signs through investigation of body parts that may give you some clue as to whether a man is "the receiver" OR who label themselves as "bottoms." This may be a helpful tip to the wives who may be more at liberty to "check your man out." OF COURSE IT IS NOT A FAILPROOF METHOD AND IT MAY NOT BE A VERY ACCURATE TEST AT ALL. And of course it doesn't do anything for those men who consider themselves "tops." However, at the end of the day, it just seems that the safest best is to take an HIV test and STILL just make him wrap it up.

Question:

If a man asks you if you've heard of the "DL", would that raise an eyebrow? Would you call him "suspect"?

How did Oprah's "mainstream" audience react to this DL concept?

Yeah...

I have mixed feelings about this being broadcasted on the Oprah show, since it is mainstream. There's already enough things that makes black men look bad in the media. I know its important to get the word out, but I wonder if it would be better to spread the word on college campuses or in black magazines...whatever. Our black student union always have guest speakers coming on campus, I'm sure it is the same way on other campuses.

I see your point but for me it was "BOUT TIME OPRAH did a show on this." You know some folks think that OPRAH is the ISHT!!! Her comments and her ignorance on this subject scared me and saddened me at the same time. She cannot afford to be ignorant on this subject.

I really wish she would do a week long in depth expose on AIDS in the BLACK community in all of its facets -- teens, adults, senior citizens; hetero; homo; DL; etc etc etc

Oh and to those who thought that the 68 year old woman caught it from a man on the DL; i did not perceive it as such; I thought it was Oprah giving voice to those who get it at an older age when they assume that BC is not even a factor. I was not lead to believe that her partner was on the DL, just unprotected and promiscuous or even possibly given the year she got AIDS, her partner might have had a surgery and acquired it through tainted blood.

Do you think Oprah REALLY is ignorant to this? Remember when she had that hazing show many years ago (Missouri-Kappa incident)? She CLAIMED she didn't know anything about pledging, etc. I was like chile puhleeze, you were at TSU when pledging was an artform...legit...legal! You seent it all!

Angry

I agree that having the DL topic on Oprah's show makes black men look even more suspect (in various ways), but EVERYBODY needs to know about this.

Just like that King said black women aren't the only people in trouble white women are too. They marry, date, sleep-with black men as well.

And we all know that every black woman isn't on a college campus and there's a lot of us-black women that don't pick-up a magazine, so the next best medium is a talk show like Oprah's.

AIDS is a HUMAN problem and we all need to know about it. Just my humble opinion.

What I don't get though is how can DL brothah's explain their non-gay/bisexual status. I don't care if you're the sticker or the stickee if either is going on, YOU ARE GAY.

I dunno. Why would someone (A MAN) ask YOU (a female) if you've ever HEARD of it (DL)?

Did you quote the correct quote?

(not shouting! I'm cool)

No one could not tell me any different.

We, as women, have 'intuition' for a reason. I am fine tuning mine!

This is a sad state of affairs. . .
