I was in charge of EXCELL whenever we had that program (the old program) as an undergrad, and am now the Programs advisor at Wingate. I think this new program blows the old one away! It's awesome. It's great because it tells you everything you need right there, and there are so many opportunities for doing the programs with other groups on campus (like one of the fraternities, or another one of the sororities, or both), which obviously would help promote the Greek spirit. It's great! Good luck with your first one - you'll find it's very easy to use and an absolutely wonderful tool! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I don't really like the new programs ... I liked the old way where we could kind of guide ourselves.

My 2 Cents

I love the new programs. So far, my favorite is the one on Courageous Leadership.

I also think the concept is a great one. As a hiring manager for my department, I can tell you that the people that I look for are people that know how to work with others. I can teach them about my company's products - I'd like them to come to me knowing how to work as a team or being able to work through conflict. That's what this program is all about.

Most of our schools have services that focus on alcohol awareness, eating disorders, or self defense. No one is saying that you can't do a program on those things. Alpha Xi Delta is just focusing on another aspect of personal development.

You still CAN guide yourselves with the new program. That's what the beauty of it is!!!

The old ExCELL program was good...but it was too hard to follow, I think. It wasn't very structured, and didn't allow for much flexibility for the needs of the group. This new program does.

I know - isn't that what's so great about it?! We're doing a program on alcohol awareness this month and are having one of our alumnae who is an addictions counselor come in and do the program for us. Next month, it's back to the program manual. It's so much more flexible, and it allows for the programs to be integrated into another program, or to be facilitated with different groups.

For example, you could do a program on teambuilding (there's one in there somewhere), and have an HR trainer (or someone comparable) come in, do some teambuilding exercises, then you segue into the program. Or, for the male/female communications program, you could team up with a fraternity on campus and do the program together. It promotes the Greek spirit AND everyone learns something!!!
