Well I guess it depends if you really want to walk in the ceremony or not.

I know personally there is no way I'm walking in mine. Thousands of people graduate and the ceremony lasts for several hours and you don't even get your diploma then. It doesn't come in the mail for almost two more months while they complete the course audits to make sure that all credits were completed.

I guess the thing you can agrue with your dean is that you only have one class left and if you are allowed to walk in the ceremony, you will complete that class in the first term of the summer. Just express how you really want to walk and don't think you should have to wait a year to walk because of one class.

If you are a good student with a pretty good GPA you might have even more bargaining power.
