I guess I must be completely unobservant because I've never noticed the lion statue in the fountain. I have some errands to run there this weekend...I'll have to take note!
Sorry, it's been a while since I've checked back in here... the lions in the fountain are down near Saks and High Country.

What part of Birmigham are you from?I go to school in Jacksonville but my boyfriend's family is in Pelham, so I'm down there quite a bit.

My husband and I went to San Antonio this weekend and there were quatrefoils everywhere! The sidewalk outside our hotel on the Riverwalk had them randomly every few steps. They were on buildings every once in a while. My husband even got in to the Spot a Quatrefoil game. I even convinced him to buy me some jewelry off of the Carnation Collection. I WIN!

The four gospels/compass aspect is interesting. Merriam-Webster online doesn't mention it, so it must be (almost) exclusively European in that regard.

Main Entry: qua·tre·foil
Pronunciation: 'ka-t&r-"foil, 'ka-tr&-
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English quaterfoil set of four leaves, from Middle French quatre + Middle English -foil (as in trefoil)
1 : a conventionalized representation of a flower with four petals or of a leaf with four leaflets
2 : a 4-lobed foliation in architecture

like the lion quatrefoil:

its only: $1,625.00

*Bump*
They are re-doing the main street in my city, and across from the high school, there is a quatrefoil made of bricks in the side walk. It is made so it looks like four circles in the center, and the square coming out of the sides of the circles. You know what I mean??? Anyway, it's a quatrefoil, and I got so excited when I saw it! When one of my sisters came up here to visit me this summer, I took her to it and showed her.

There was definately a quatrafoil hanging on page 32 of the most recent Pottery Barn catalog (early fall 2005.) After searching throughout the entire catalog, I discovered that it was just a teaser and could not find it for sale. Damn you, Pottery Barn!!

Oh also, in the show, "yes, dear" (I think that is what it is. There is a married couple with kids, and the brother and his wife live there, too w/ their kids..anyway...) When they open the front door, there is a quatrefoil on what would be their front porch

The daughter of the owner of Chili's is a Phi Mu!

There's a Phi Mu secret that also has to do with Chili's but I can't let that out on the boards.
