Asking for cash is wrong. One should be more tasteful in the request. I attended a wedding recently where the couple was registered at a website where guests could give the gift of mutual funds, stocks, and securities. I thought that was cool because it lets the guest know that the couple is seriously considering how the money should be used and the importance of saving prior to retirement. I did not hear of anyone questioning the gifts, infact everyone said "those kids are so responsible" and "isn't it great that they are planning ahead... I wish we did that years ago". Some people remarked on how easy it was for them to make the purchase and how they could give how much or how little as they wanted. Teenagers and young children were able to give the couple gifts of $20 or less and not just have their parents sign their name to a gift. All in all, I think this was a great way to ask for money and not ask for money.
