Honestly, I don't think you should stay there. I'm sure it's ok, but you'll most likely be taking the El (elevated train) and going out at nights. That area is a little shady, especially for those who might appear to be not from around there. Your better bet would be to try the hostel downtown (you're close to the lake/park, shopping on State St or Michigan Ave, a couple el stops to Rush st). Or look for college dorm rooms at DePaul or Loyola in Lincoln Park (lots of great bars, Wrigley Field and little boutiques).
