First of all, this isn't really anything new- I've been to a place in NYC where they did the same thing, except with chocolate dipped strawberries and whipped cream instead of sushi. I kind of have the Eric Cartman "it's my hot body, I do what I want" attitude towards it, so it's not a big deal to me.
However, I've also been to Japan, and saw nothing of the sort. We saw some crazy stuff in Tokyo (there's a place where they all wear little bo peep outfits on Sunday... no clue), but there is still lots of tradition there that wouldn't tolerate something like this- especially in the southern part. I think it would be a much bigger deal there than here.
