When other sororities were trying to "poach" Adelpheans into their GLOs, the Adelpheans decided to change their name to Alpha Delta Phi instead (1904). Being of Southern origin, they didn't even hear of the fraternity until 1912, and changed yet again to Alpha Delta Pi in 1913 to accomadate them. Alpha Delta Phi never extended further South than UVA, and has 24 chapters, while Alpha Delta Pi has chapters across the US and Canada and has over 130 active chapters.

It's a petty thing, I know, but that's the feeling..
Actually, there are chapters further south in latitude than Virginia, if we're going to be picky...and including the Alpha Delta Phi Society, which uses an identical ritual to the Fraternity, there are 30 active chapers. While it has literary roots, it has always been a fraternity - the founder of ADPhi originally looked to KA (the Northern one) before founding ADPhi instead.
