For preference we actually do the wildflower ceremony and the tying a ribbon on the kite thing. We also play the "believe in Theta video." Also the initial girl that prefs the PNM, writes her a letter just for her (odds are that is that Theta's "rush crush" so they know each other well). After the letter is read the Rusher/Theta will continue to talk abotu how much Theta means to her. After the Believe in Theta video is played, a second preffer (dont know if that is a word) will also come up to that designated girl also reading a letter that she has wrote to her, and again telling the PNM how much Theta has touched her life. Also all members get into a circle which goes around the room. Usually the Rush chair starts it off and she'll say " My name is Ashley, and I like to read." The girl next to her will say "My name is Mary. I also like to read (then she holds hands with Ashley) and I like sports." Then the next person will say "My name is Susan, I also like sports (takes the hand of Mary), and I work at Express. this continues going all around the room ending with the president saying her name and I love Kappa Alpha Theta. Thus showing that we all have different interests, but we are all linked together through Theta.
Let me see what else......oh yeah during the ribbon tying on the kite, a couple of girls stand under our lighted arch that we use and sing "Theta Way." We sing collectively another song during the preference ceremony but i forget the name of it !
Then as the PNM's are being escorted out and hugged bye by the member who preffed her, we sing "There's a kite called Theta Kite" Our preference is about an hour long. I know you dont like some of what we do but maybe some of the other ideas will help you
