Fall 2003 Pledges
Hello Beta brothers from across the nation and Canada!
Just wanted to drop in and ask how everyone's pledges are doing this fall semester. I was initiated last year, and this is the first time I'm experiencing the pleding process as an outsider, an active, and it is so much different. We have 9 strong and intelligent pledges this semester. I enjoy their company so much and glad that they are new friends and eventually brothers to me. I also have the blessing of being a Big Bro, and I'm having a blast mentoring and hanging out with him. Beta Theta Pi means so much to me, and I know it will only get much better!
Here's a shotout to our EC: Mr. Watling! It was great to see you again and hope to see you soon... RENEW YOUR PERMIT! Ha!

Oshkosh started with 10 this semester, down to 7 now - we lost 3 in the first three weeks. I'm an alumn., so I don't know a whole lot of the logistics, but things aren't looknig so good for us. This has been the trend for our chapter the past few years...

We started off with 22 pledges at the beginning. All are very good guys, I'm not sure they are reaching their level of potential right now, and sadly I think that's something that is becoming more of a prevailing trend in our chapter right now. Perhaps I'm unfair in comparing them to my own pledge class, but such comparisons seem natural as they are a lot like we are.
We've lost one so far, one that doesn't live in the house. He was a good kid, and if he lived in it probably wouldn't have ended the way it did. The structure of our pledge program was a too much for him he said.
I think it is possible that the chapter will depledge one, but that remains to be seen.
Other than that one possible depledging, I don't see us losing anymore, and would be pretty surprised if they all didn't initiate together.

Re: Fall 2003 Pledges
Hey all you awesome Betas! I just wanted to let you all know that Mike (BetaMike24) truly makes all Betas look great.. He is one of the proudest members I have met and is constantly making others around him happy. He is one of the reasons (along with his big sis) that I joined Greek Life. You are all lucky to have him as a bro and I hope you all meet him someday. (and he's a cool PD date, too!) Love ya Mike!!

Mike and his Lil Bro are a perfect match.. they are the type of guys I like to be able to go to to bring a smile to my face after a LONG day. They are awesome additions to Beta Theta Pi. Go Beta!

Our Fall Pledge class was horrible. We started out with 8 guys and initiated 5, but have already had one quite. It really was just limited to Beta though. Among the 14 fraternities on my campus, only 75 guys were initiated. IFC and the Unviersity have actually been holding a series of meetings to figure out what the heck happened.
Some of that statistics I've heard about last semester were really bad. 2 chapters here have lawsuits filed against them. One house burned down. The average GPA was 1.5 (ours was a 3.3), with one chapter having a .5 GPA. Fraternities were the #2 complaint to the University this past semester....it's bad. They have actually talked about putting non-member graduates in each fraternity house, sort of like an RA at the dorms.
We really worked our asses of this spring and had rush practices, used RTS, and a few other things and got 13 pledges this spring. It's looking up, but we've already had one guy quite.
