I don't know...when I read your original post, the first thing that popped into my head was, "This guy likes her, I mean
likes her." Such a beautiful piece of jewelry is not usually a Yay-We're-Best-Buds type of present.

I would recommend trying to go with the more personal kinds of gifts, like something engraved, classic guy jewelry (cuff links, etc.) so if there are some feeligns there, even if you don't want to reciprocate, you cushion the blow somewhat.
