LOL@ the eight kids exclamation.
DANG Carnation! Was that a typo? If not then I am in awe of your ability to do anything but run after children all day!
Delph- The key to success on Atkins is PLANNING. Make sure you ALWAYS have the kind of food that you need in the house. Make sure you have a list of emergency foods that are ok (chicken and turkey wraps, grilled chicken sandwiches without the bread, grilled chicken salad, etc.). If you're going out of town, make the investment and buy the atkins snacks!
Whatever it is that you find yourself craving most often, find a good substitute that is Atkins-friendly.
Good luck!

<sticking my nose in>
As of today, I'm officially back on the Atkins diet. I am back to the weight I was at when I started Atkins the first time... needing to lose about 30 lbs.
My fridge is stocked with lots of cold cuts, eggs, cheese, and salad, my glass is full of water, my exercise equipment is dusted off, and I'm gonna do this!

No, no typo. We have 13 - and 8 are our biological kids. How on earth do I work? I HAVE to!
Today, the custodian said, "Whew! You're getting skinnier every day!"
Amen to what lovelyivy84 said about planning. Sometimes you just have to have a snack and it's not easy to keep protein snacks on hand. I've been keeping low-carb Atkins snacks around for those desperate moments of hunger that would otherwise ruin my diet.

I totally sympathise. This is a complicated WOE and it takes practice! Just don't beat yourself up too badly when you mess up- we all do- and try to be a bit better at it the next day.
I shouldn't talk- my ambitious daily nutritional goals- 130g protein, 30g fiber are almost impossible to reach for me right now because of where I work! Newark has no gourmet food spots, and PLENTY of greasy diners.
Ic ould do all right if I was willing to plan out my meals and bring lunch and snack every day but getting up at 6 am to go to work is hard enough without also having to make lunch.
I need a wife, lol!

You girls are the bomb. More power to ya cuz I can't do it. I've been doing weight watchers for about 2 weeks and lost 3 pounds. It's hard at my job to do ANY sort of diet. Everybody orders lunch (and it smells so good) or we have parties. Too much but I'm hanging in there this time. I'm in a wedding Dec 14th.

It is possible to eat well and stick to your woe. You just have to be careful and do a lot of the cooking yourself, lol. There ARE things that are Atkins-ready and taste good you know, lol.
My fave Atkins-ready items are:
baked salmon
roast chicken breast
steamed broc
Subway's salads
HC Subway's is the BEST FAST FOOD PLACE EVER!

alternatives
Just my humble opinion-
but people who like the principles of Atkins and want something similar that is a bit more flexible might like the Body For Life system. That WOE also stresses protein and good carbs. Body RX by Scott Connelly is also a good one.
You might want to do some research into those systems if Atkins really defeats you, lol.
I'm not knocking Atkins because I know people who have maintained ont hat plan for years quite succesfully, but it's just really hard for a lot of people to get into ketosis, etc. You don't have to with those other plans.
