IUP Greek village

I was searching for something else IUP related and came across links about the Greek village.

What is the status of this? Is it a go, stop, midstream? Good idea overall or sucky?

Here is what I know as of when I left in 2000:

There really was no status of it and it had been talked about since before I started college in '96. There was a mild resurgence in the talk later on, but again nothing ever came of it. I'm not sure what is going on with it as of now.

I can see good and bad aspects of it. In theory it's a nice idea b/c it would put all the greeks together in one location and give them some sort of housing. However, on the downside, the locations they were talking about sucked. Not really within walking distance of the campus. The Greek concensus was that they were doing it to keep the Greeks off campus and isolated in hopes that underclassmen wouldn't see us and it would be tougher to recruit or for others to know what the Greeks were up to. It seemed like an attemt to eventually fade out greek life.

We do, however, have a new president and Greek life has the start of a webpage within the IUP site, so maybe some good could come out of it if it were to resurface again.

Mindy

btw, do you happen to have a link to where you were reading about it?

Mindy - it was a link to an old class site, from around 1998. So I doubt anything on there is feasible any longer.
