Notre Dame soon to be ACC team?
ESPN says there is talke they will become a ACC team in stages and will be a full ACC team after the Notre Dame tv football contract ends. Any thoughts? If this is true ACC will be a powerful league with the other 2 new adititions.

Great sports tradition. High name recognition.
I do think that they are often rated higher than they deserve (especially in the pre-season polls) more because of that tradition than the talent they have.
It'll be interesting to see if that changes if/when they join a conference.
Just once, though, I'd like to go see a game at South Bend.

Shouldn't happen, but who knows. Notre Dame has too good of a deal in football, I don't think they're going to want to split bowl profits with anyone.
Would make sense in every sport except football, I don't see the football team being anything but independent.

If they had a few really bad seasons and started not to be BCS bowl regulars, this would make sense. Currently, if ND wins 9 games or more, they're in a BCS bowl. In '01, for example, OU won 10 games and had to settle for the Cotton bowl.
Right now though, it makes no sense financially for ND to be anything but an independant. Doesn't look like they stand much chance of making ANY bowl this year the way they've been playing, but you never know.

Exactly - they have the sweetest deal possible in football.
To back this up, their AD reiterated yesterday, "We will always be an independent in football - ALWAYS."
