I am pretty glad that APhiA doesn't have a national youth auxilliary.
I'm glad we don't either.

And I'm also glad I wasn't in a high school sorority.

Looking back to all the Marjorie Sharmat books I read in junior high, the "sisterhoods" she wrote about was based purely on superficial reasons -- i.e. nobody but sorority sisters sit at the Chi Kappa table in the cafeteria. If I had joined an organization like that before becoming an adult, I probably would have been turned off from Greek Life in college because I'd think that all sorority girls were like the ones I read about as a 13 year old.

Finally, I can't help but haha at DSTCHAOS and cupcake. What's up with all the food references lately?

I sincerely hope that these youth programs involve some sort of academic mentoring. Clearly spelling is an issue here.

I don't really think Fraternities and Sororities are necessary at the high school level. When I was in HS, we didn't have them. But we had plenty of cliques. And that's all a HS Fraternity or Sorority seems to be. There are plenty of worthwhile programs and organizations for kids to get involved in such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts....if you really look at them...they are as close to GLO's as you can get before college. (the similarities have been discussed here on GC somewhere)

There is a group of girls in LA that use my organization's name. We discovered them when creating a group on MySpace. We were stunned that the name "Sigma Psi Kappa" had already been we're the only chapter. We contacted them and let them know that Sigma Psi Kappa already exists and has existed long before they started themselves. What is worse is that they use the same colors and copied images from our website after claiming they didn't know the name was already taken. The eventually changed their name to Sigma Psi Kappa Jr Sorority, Inc. (which i highly doubt that they are Incorporated) But they are in no way affiliated with my organization.

Hey, is anyone who's been in a high school fraternity or sorority interested in talking about it? I'd love to do an interview over the phone, especially if you're in the Chicago area. You can find my contact info at http://www.myfoxchicago.com/dpp/abou...ark_Saxenmeyer.

I refuse to believe someone employed in the news-media industry would solicit interviews on a message board. What is this world coming to?

Well, it's 2010 and it's a PUBLIC forum. Try reading your own tag line...it's not that serious, it's Greek Chat. And if I can bring notice to teens getting hazed and hurt because of these groups then isn't it for a good cause?? Try asking before judging.

Yeah, like not serious enough to be a credible journalistic resource...

Nu-uh, all the REAL news shows do it.

Remember when the Tyra Show came here because Tyra wanted "rush" and do "a day in the life" of a sorority girl? I remember looking up the chick who posted and she did work for the Tyra show at the time.

Not surprisingly, she was shown the door shortly after posting.

Stay tuned for breaking news on how mean people are at online forums. Story at 11.

Why focus on high school "sororities" and "fraternities" when there are alum groups in Chicago full of real Greeks that do great things??
