Hmmm. That's not my experience. I know that there are some fraternities (like Lambda Chi, and apparently Alpha Sigma Phi) that consider their pledging ceremonies open but private, but most fraternities I am familiar with consider them secret. We certainly do. But perhaps it is more common than I was aware of.
