1 & 2. I always knew I was going to an HBCU both my parents attended Langston in Oklahoma and it was a tradition to go there. However I narrowed it down to Clark or Prairie View, neither I knew much about. Then all the sudden I considered Southern. I had a boyfrined in high school whose brother attended and I was like I am going there. To me a HBCU is like a family member who gets on your last nerve but nobody outside your family can say anything bad about them. Plus I met my husband there the BEGINNING of freshman year by the union 8 years ago, and we have been together ever since.
3. I LOVED Southern!!!!! It took a lot to get use to Louisiana and the South being from Cali, but I loved SU!!
Advantages
1. The people wanted you to succeed even when it didn't seem that way.
2. The diversity of Black people.
3. The atmosphere
4. The networking
5. The social lessons in survival
6. The friendships and bond with alumni
7. The greeks, the band the football team
8. Bayou Classic
The BAD
1. Things run by Black people have a tendency to..... ahhh!
2. Financial aid! Why my financial aid counselor was arrested for a work study scam!
3. NO SENSE OF URGENCY IN IMPORTANT MANNERS!
4. Lack of organization
ALL in ALL the Bad can be traced to number 1
HOWEVER I loved my college experience! I loved all the the bad:
"the computers are down....."
my financial aid papers are lost
my housing is gone
"What do you mean I should have taken this class?"
the water is out for a weekend?
and the good

2. The band (my husband was in the band)
3. The club
4. I hate Grambling!!!
5. The Union
6. The fight song
7. That good old refund check!
I could go on forever, and homecoming is coming up. I would reccomend a HBCU to anybody, I hope my son goes to Southern. The memories are a lifetime!
