Should I have each of them talk to their friends to help me get recruited or does that give off a bad vibe?
NO NO BAD BAD VIBE!!!!

If your mother's friend wants to write a recommendation for you and send it to the sorority, that would be fine, but she should not talk to the girls. They would feel extremely pressured by that, and it can be construed as an infraction if any of the other groups would hear of it. (infraction means the sorority in question is punished)

The only reason you should talk to the Greek affairs VP is if you have questions about rush. Under no circumstances should you ask him/her for any sort of "in." They are supposed to be impartial and support all the chapters. Depending on the Greek system's opinion of the VP, even if they could do that, it might harm you as well. I know the old Panhel advisor at my school was such an idiot that if she had anything nice to say about someone, I would have voted the rushee out right away.
