I'm in Louisiana and I took the NTE in '97. You know since then, the name has changed to Praxis with "new" tests. I really didn't study for the tests. On my way to taking the communication part, I did listen to the tape that came with the practice book, that's all of the studying I did. I had like a 70 mile drive, so it came in handy when I needed to "listen" on the actual test. I don't know if they still have that part. I did take a prep course offered by our union.(I had began teaching before I took the test).

I had the big practice book for the GRE, but never used it. Since I will retake the GRE, I asked one of my administrators at work, who has her doctorate, what is the best way to try to increase your scores for the GRE. She suggested to increase my reading, therefore, increasing my vocabulary. I thought trying to learn math for the quanitative part would help, she was like, get for real. She insists that reading more would be more beneficial. Ask me have I increased my reading, heck no! The only reading I've done in the last year has been reading this dang computer screen! LOL

But, I hope that since I took the GRE in '93 and it is now '01, that my scores should improve. Also, considering the fact that when I did take the test in '93, I did have a hangover and almost fell asleep during the test. But, I made enough to enter into my Graduate program AND GRADUATE! I'll know better the next time!

Please excuse the length!

Good Luck!
