I try not to let someones outward appearance influence my opinion on them, but it can play a part. If someone is dressed inappropriately, I'll notice it, but it won't stop me from talking to them. Same with a car or house. It just makes me a little wary of intstigating the conversation.
On the other hand, I'd be just as hesitant to start a conversation with a girl carrying a LV purse, wearing Manolos, Chanel, and Tiffany, and driving a BMW (especially when they are like, 20 yrs old). I don't doubt that a lot of people work hard for the things they have, and I can respect that, but a lot of the people that have these things that I've experienced got them from their parents credit card. And that's not even the problem I have! It's the fact that everytime I have tried to approach them, I get the "did I just scrape you off my shoe?" look, because I don't have a LV bag or a Tiffany necklace. My parents aren't rich, and neither am I, but that doesn't make me a bad person. And low income isn't catching.
I think what matters is how much personality one can show through all of the stuff we see. If someone is confident and friendly in a sweatsuit and driving a pinto, I would see them in a higher light than someone driving a Benz wearing a designer outfit that won't give you the time of day.
