I agree wholeheartedly with nearly everything KateyAlphaGam said.
EXCEPT:
I would never ever ever talk to it. Because even if you think the ghost is good, there really isn't a way to tell. And there's nothing stopping a formerly "good' ghost from gettin pissed off and wanting to be mean.
[edited to add:] telling it to leave is ok, just like she said above. be firm, but not forceful because while you think the ghost is intruding on your space, the ghost thinks YOU are.
Otherwise, yeah. The really are just lonely. I have several in my house. My mom and I make it a game to try to figure out who they are. We've done it successfully twice and as soon as we figured the first one out, he left. He just wanted to be remembered!
The second we can't get to leave because it's a cat and obviously cats don't understand English.
